The walking safari is the last haven for discerning explorers who long for the freedom of the African bush and to move at the pace of nature. Only a handful of companies have been granted permission to enter the Serengeti on foot.
Lion tracking is with an armed ranger. Your participation in this walking safari helps fund the protection of these big cats. The rangers take notes on specific lions spotted and report their findings to the Ol Pejeta Ecological Monitoring Department.
When a lioness charged Karen Blixen, she took it down with a single shot. A few seconds later, a male lion charged from a different direction, and Denys Finch Hatton fired both barrels in a tense, close call
Survival training with Maasai warriors, known as moran, offers an unparalleled African experience. They can adapt and survive in the toughest conditions, making them one of the bravest and fiercest tribes in East Africa’s history.
Their bushcraft is legendary, and they will tell you their secrets…
It is a privilege to have four generations of Bushmen, women, and preschool children living at Jack’s Camp in Makgadikgadi.
Offering a window into the past, the bushmen will teach you how to survive in the harshest environments using their vast and ancient knowledge of plants, animal behaviors, and survival skills.
Upon arrival, the community elders greet you in their traditional manner. You’ll have the rare opportunity to walk with them into the bush for an informative introduction to the Kalahari Desert and their way of life.
Unashamedly romantic and beautifully styled, Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park is sculpted into Mughwango Hill above the site of George Adamson’s original camp, where he raised and released orphaned lions. Each cottage is crafted around the rocks, with a large bedroom, open sitting room, veranda, and spacious bathroom with breathtaking views.
The lions of Meru patrol this spectacular park and are the main attraction as this is where Born Free was filmed, the story of George & Joy Adamson, who raised Elsa, the lion. Elsa’s grave is close by and can be visited.
This is a horseback ride like no other. Working directly with the local communities, who live on the edge of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a lightweight camp is transported either in traditional mokoros (dug-out canoes) or by pack donkeys, depending on water levels.
This safari is literally “off the grid.” We can arrange for your “exclusive use” of the mobile camp, based on availability. Experience fantastic riding locations, abundant wildlife, the best bush cuisine cooked on open fires, and top-class professional guiding, but always with a minimal ecological footprint.
Intermediate to experienced riders only. For non-riders, they can go out on mokoros canoe trips, walking safaris, or swim in the clear waters of the Okavango while you’re out riding. Fly in and out by helicopter, and photograph wildlife from above.
Ride along ancient lakebeds lined with palm trees and sand dunes stretching for miles in one of the most beautiful areas of the Botswana wilderness and the Kalahari.
At the height of the migration season, the islands and adjoining grasslands are awash with zebra, wildebeest, hartebeest, ostrich, and of course, the attendant predators!
South African trail saddles are used as they are more comfortable over long distances and kinder on the horse’s back. Includes the “exclusive use” of a helicopter, and luxury bush camps, based on availability.
Enjoy a tranquil journey in a mokoro, the traditional way of traversing the wondrous water land of the Okavango Delta, a unique pulsing wetland.
It is part of the Rift Valley System and one of the few large inland delta systems without an outlet to the sea. Known as an endorheic delta, its waters drain instead into the desert sands of the Kalahari Basin.
This is the habitat of vast elephant and Cape buffalo herds, and home to Pel’s fishing owl, one of the most elusive and sought-after birds of the Okavango Delta. For most twitchers, this bird is considered by some to be the Holy Grail of rare birds.
