Kruger National Park is the flagship of South Africa’s national parks.  It owes its name to Paul Kruger, affectionally known as Oom Paul, the President of the Transvaal Republic from 1880 to 1900, now present-day South Africa.

President Kruger proposed the need to protect South Africa’s wildlife in 1884, and the Kruger opened in 1926.

InterContinental Johannesburg

Fly into Johannesburg International Airport in South Africa (JNB) and be met by an owner of our company, your guide. In the morning, your owner-guide will transfer you to the helipad for a chartered helicopter flight to Thornybush Game Reserve within Kruger National Park.

Your pilot added extra time to your flight to explore Blydes River Canyon, Three Rondavels, and God’s Winds, all fabulous geologic wonders in the Kruger area. Arrive in time for an afternoon sundowner game drive.

The reserve is home to the “Big 6” in the birding world: Pel’s fishing owls, martial eagles, southern ground hornbills, saddle-billed storks, kori bustards, and the lappet-faced vultures.

Elegant and exclusive, Thornybush Game Lodge offers a complete package for individual guests, corporate getaways, groups, or wedding extravaganzas.

Your game viewing is private and exclusive.

Thornybush Game Reserve

Day Three

Hot Air Balloon & Walking Safari

Hot air ballooning, Thornybush Game Lodge

Take to the skies as the sun rises over the Lowveld section of the Blyde River. After landing, a hot breakfast with champagne is served in a remote, stunning location.

Ditch the game vehicle in the afternoon and explore the bush on a walking safari.

Your experienced guide is trained for walking safaris. He teaches tracking, points out rare birds, reveals the nuances of the bush, and gives you an insight into Kruger’s powerful ecosystem. This reserve is renowned for big cats that play an essential role in the ecological balance. This includes reclusive leopards. Learn to move through the bush in silence and listen.

Anti-poaching helicopter air surveillance patrol

In the morning, you’ll have the unique opportunity to participate in an important anti-poaching helicopter air surveillance patrol with a wildlife Ranger.

This flight primarily focuses on flying over a designated area within Kruger, offering firsthand observations into the park’s extensive wildlife conservation efforts.

Day Four

Helicopter Air Surveillance Patrol

“An all-round 10/10 for the lodge, the ranger and tracker, game drives, the Big 5, cuisine, room, and the genuine feeling of how the staff engaged was tops. A must-visit for lovers of the bush.”

Aerial Photography Helicopter Flight

Elephant fighting buffalo herd

Yes, another helicopter flight. This morning’s flight is devoted to aerial photography. The pilot has extensive experience working with premier international wildlife photographers and possesses a wealth of invaluable tips and insights.

Off-roading is approved in this private reserve.

Take in the suspense of the bush during the day or at night when nocturnal predators hunt in the cover of darkness. The bush transforms into a different world after dark, and your senses sharpen with every rustle, howl, hunting grunt, or the sawing growl of a leopard.

Your last dinner is in the bush by a big fire, soft lantern light, and an award-winning chef who will delight you with his love affair with food.

MCC Aviation plane

Your morning chartered flight is to the farthest north reserve in Kruger National Park, a remote and rarely visited area of the park.

This is Makuleke Reserve in the Pafuri Triangle, adjacent to the Zimbabwe and Mozambique borders and the famed Limpopo River system.

The jewel of Northern Kruger is at the top of a rocky ridge overlooking towering baobabs, lush riverine forests, and wildlife on a vast scale.

The Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers are essential waters for the diverse wildlife inhabiting this region. The Makuleke wetlands is a designated Ramsar Site holding international importance for its conservation of wetlands and waterfowl habitat.

Fly to the Pafuri Triangle and the famed Limpopo River system, where few safaris roam.

The Outpost is an exclusive safari haven concealed in the remote and stunning Pafuri Triangle, where big elephants and Cape buffalo herds congregate at the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers. It is an area of extraordinary beauty with 80% of Kruger Park’s diversity.

(4 Nights)

Bush walks are with an armed ranger who knows the area’s wildlife well. He reveals the subtleties of Pafuri’s ecosystem and its wetlands. If you want to focus exclusively on walking safaris, you’ll still have full use of a private safari vehicle for transport to unique areas of the park. This provides you with a guide and the luxury of time.

The Outpost offers a daily spa package per person. How better to learn about the mystique of ancient African spa techniques? The following is one of 9 spa packages:

Rare Earth Splendour: This ultimate 2-hour hydration journey is an escape into total relaxation. Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, it’s been used by local African communities for centuries. The treatment begins with a full body scrub to soften and smooth, followed by a warm shower and a 90-minute full body massage to ease tension and soothe tired muscles after a long day in the bush.

Day Nine

Experience the Wilderness as You Like

Inside dining, The Outpost

Spend the last day as you like. Northern Kruger offers slow safaris. With civilization living at a fast pace, a safari slows things down. It allows you to live in the moment, honing a deeper insight into all aspects of the wilderness experience.

The reserve area is 65,482 acres (26,500 Ha). There’s a lot to see, and with very few safari vehicles around, it feels like you have the entire concession to yourselves.

We arranged a special bush breakfast for your last morning, and your pilot has a unique route planned for your return to Johannesburg Airport, flying over a remarkable location.
